On May 6, an event was held reviewing the first year of operation of DataverseLV – from an idea outlined in Latvia’s Open Science Strategy to a fully functioning research data repository that has already received the internationally recognized CoreTrustSeal certification. The event brought together Latvian and international experts to discuss the development of open science, research data management, and future opportunities for the Dataverse platform.
The event welcomed Gustavo Durand and Philip Durbin from The Dataverse Project at Harvard University, who introduced the origins of the Dataverse software, its development, and its broad user community around the world. The guests emphasized that the Dataverse platform has become an important solution for long-term preservation, management, and sharing of research data on an international scale.
On May 7 and 8, discussions and meetings were held with representatives of RSU Dataverse and the Lithuanian Data Archive for Social Sciences and Humanities (LiDA). During these meetings, participants discussed repository development, opportunities for collaboration, and the strengthening of research data infrastructure in the Baltic region. Attention was given both to technical solutions and to issues of sustainable governance and user support.
The visit of Dataverse representatives strengthens the international recognition of the DataverseLV repository and helps it reach an ever wider community of users. Representatives from Harvard University highly praised the achievements of DataverseLV, noting that the progress achieved within a single year is remarkable and can serve as a good practice example for other countries seeking to implement national research data repositories based on the Dataverse platform.
The development of DataverseLV demonstrates Latvia’s purposeful progress toward an open, trustworthy, and internationally competitive research data management environment, strengthening both scientific collaboration and the accessibility of data for future research.
