On 28 and 29 April 2026, the two-day online seminar “Anonymisation, Pseudonymisation and Management of Sensitive Research Data” took place, organized by the Higher Education and Science IT Shared Services Centre (VPC).

The seminar focused on the protection and processing of sensitive research data, with particular attention paid to anonymisation, pseudonymisation, and the practical use of these approaches in research.

During the training, topics covered included types of sensitive data in research and the risks associated with them, the basic principles of data protection and privacy, pseudonymisation and anonymisation methods, identification and re-identification risks, as well as anonymisation and pseudonymisation tools, including ARX, sdcMicro, Amnesia, Python, and R solutions. The seminar also covered the management of sensitive data throughout the entire data lifecycle and the preparation of data for secure sharing and publication.

The seminar was led by Prof. Dr. Matthias Templ, Head of the Competence Centre for Data Quality and Anonymisation, Head of the Swiss Data Anonymisation Centre, and representative of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW).
