On March 17–18, 2026, Mihails Korčevskis (RTU), a representative of the Latvian Data Stewards Network, participated in the AI in Higher Education Summit 2026 in Paris, France. The event brought together higher education representatives, researchers, policymakers and technology experts from various European countries. The summit was organised by ESCP Business School, offering a wide range of discussions, panel sessions and workshops on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education.

During the event, several important issues regarding the integration of AI into study and research processes were raised. It was emphasised that the implementation of artificial intelligence should be based on clearly defined principles or ABC principles – Accountability, Boldness and Creativity. The discussions focused on how the integration of AI into institutional work processes affects decision-making and the academic environment as a whole.

Parallel sessions analysed changes in student assessment approaches after the introduction of various artificial intelligence tools. It was concluded that increasing importance is given not to the final result, but to the student’s thinking process and ability to argue their opinion. The summit also addressed issues regarding the use of AI in research, including how to effectively use AI tools in academic writing. It was emphasised that the quality of results largely depends on the quality of input data and context. The need to move from “black box” systems to transparent (glass box) solutions in higher education was also highlighted in order to ensure greater reliability of the result and traceability of its creation.

Participation in the summit provided an opportunity to learn about the latest trends in the use of artificial intelligence in higher education, as well as to strengthen international cooperation and gain practical insights for improving the study process, the quality of research, and developing institutional solutions.
