From November 18 to 20, VPC Data Steward Mikus Melderis attended the Munin Conference on Scholarly Publishing, which took place in Tromsø, Norway. The event was dedicated to Open Science, academic publishing and research infrastructures. The conference annually brings together researchers, librarians, data management specialists and science policymakers, offering an extensive programmme with keynote lectures, parallel sessions, discussions and workshops.
This year, the emphasis was on the importance of reproducibility, metadata quality and open publishing. Discussions and presentations highlighted the importance of negative results in science and the impact of registered reports on research quality. Significant attention was also paid to open scientific infrastructures and the need for auditable, non-commercial systems.
The practical part of the conference offered insights into the latest tools and technologies, such as AI-based search capabilities in repositories and automation of ReadMe documentation. Open-source research data management solutions and their advantages and limitations in large data sets were also discussed.
Munin 2025 provided valuable insights that are also useful in the context of Latvian research data management and repository development.
