Kristaps Oškalns, a representative of the Latvian Data Stewards Network, remotely participated in the 2025 Dataverse Community Meeting, which took place at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), one of the leading public research universities in the United States. UNC Dataverse was the first instance established outside of Harvard University, and it continues to serve as a significant example of community development.
The theme of this year’s meeting was “Expanding the Dataverse: Fostering Innovation, Strengthening Community, Building Legacy.” The event highlighted a variety of community achievements, from technological innovations and system integrations to creative research initiatives that are using Dataverse in new and inspiring ways.
Remote participation allowed for presentations and discussions on how Dataverse is being used across institutions to strengthen research heritage and build active data sharing and preservation communities. It was particularly valuable to see how Dataverse is evolving as an open science infrastructure and how it is facilitating international collaboration.
DCM2025 reflected the community’s commitment to continue expanding its reach, supporting an ever-widening range of disciplines around the world. The event inspired thinking about new technical solutions, creative integrations, and future possibilities for even more effective use of Dataverse for research data management.
