Pethodological data
What is research data?
Research data is any information collected, observed or generated in the course of a research project and used as a basis for obtaining research results and drawing conclusions.
| Research dtypes of research | Examples |
|---|---|
| Numerical measurements | Temperature measurements in laboratory experiments |
| Text | Literature analysis notes |
| Images | Microscopy images |
| Video | Experiment recordings |
| Audio Recordings | Recordings of interviews |
| Programme codes | Data analysis software code |
| Other data formats | Geographico information system data |
What is not research data?
Data not directly related to scientific research and does not contribute to the scientific analysis or evidence base of the research projectshall not be considered as research data.
| No research data | Examples |
|---|---|
| Administrative records of the study | Financial statements or personnel documents |
| Commercial or private communications | Emails or correspondence |
| Legal documents | Employment or cooperation contracts |
| Marketing materials | Promotional leaflets |
What is a dataset?
Dataset (English: dataset) is a systematically structured set of data, usually arranged in tables or other structured forms, consisting of a number of data elements or values that have been collected and prepared for analysis.
The terms "data" and "dataset" are often used synonymously. Although "data" and "dataset" are closely related concepts, they have slightly different meanings. Simply put, a dataset is a systematic arrangement of sets of data.
Example:

-
Dataset: A table with data collected from a number of study participants; each row in the table corresponds to a specific participant and the columns indicate their age, country of affiliation and gender
