Daina Kosīte, a representative of the Latvian data stewards network, participated in the first workshop of the European network of data stewards and long-term digital preservation experts, which took place on 1-2 October 2025 in Leuven (Belgium).

This workshop was part of the EOSC EDEN projekta project, which aims to create a broad network of experts, bringing together representatives of various repositories and digital archives. The main task of the network would be to define and harmonise the roles and responsibilities of data stewards, with a special focus on data quality, standardisation and long-term accessibility. During the workshop, participants worked practically – sharing their experience and their visions and discussing examples of good practice in data curation and digital preservation.

The participation of Daina Kosīte, a data steward at the VPC, ensured that Latvia’s experience in the creation and administration of the research data repository DataverseLV, as well as the perspective on data management and long-term preservation, was also included in the European-level discussions. The Latvian representative actively participated in working groups, where the challenges of various repositories were discussed, as well as solutions for data reuse in interdisciplinary research were sought. Special attention was paid to how to ensure a coordinated approach to data quality assessment and how to strengthen cooperation between research data repositories in Europe based on the Dataverse platform.

Participation in this event was an important step in strengthening the international cooperation of the Latvian Data Stewards Network and the DataverseLV repository. It allowed us to gain new knowledge and contacts with European data curation and digital preservation experts, as well as promoted Latvia’s involvement in the joint development of the European data management ecosystem. After the workshop, it is planned to continue cooperation with other network participants to jointly promote high-quality and sustainable research data management both in Latvia and in Europe.
