From December 1 to 3, VPC data stewards Kaspars Bērziņš, Mikus Melderis, Kristaps Oškalns and Gita Rozenberga visited Daugavpils University to introduce the basics of research data management and discuss possible regulations for the institution’s research data management.

Seminars

During the visit, data stewards led several workshops on Open Science principles, research data management, sensitive data processing, and long-term data preservation and sharing. Students, researchers, and administration representatives actively participated in the workshops.

Nursing students were also given a customised seminar on healthcare sensitive data management, covering theoretical and practical aspects.

Consultations

In parallel with the seminars, data stewards provided individual consultations to university researchers. The main emphasis was placed on practical support in meeting funder requirements and developing high-quality data management plans, which are critical in preparing project applications.

Collaboration opportunities

Discussions with the management of Daugavpils University outlined specific steps for further cooperation. It was discussed how data stewards can provide expertise in the development of institutional research data management guidelines and promote the creation of a unified research data collection in the national repository DataverseLV.

A significant part of the talks was also devoted to a broader strategic partnership, discussing the university’s involvement in the Digitsation of the Study Process and Scientific Activities projects led by the VPC. This cooperation will allow for the modernisation of study services and the strengthening of both the research and academic environment, ensuring access to innovative digital solutions.

Thank you for the warm welcome!

A huge thank you to the Deputy Director for Development, Jānis Kudiņš, for his support in organising and hosting the visit!

Presentations from the seminars (in Latvian) are available to all interested parties.
