On 10 and 11 March, VPC data curators visited Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences in Valmiera, where seminars, meetings, and consultations dedicated to research data management took place. The aim of the visit was to provide practical support to ViA researchers and research support staff, as well as to discuss issues related to the everyday practice of data management in research projects.<\/p>\n

Over the course of two days, seminar participants attended both in person and online and learned about the key principles of research data management \u2014 from data planning and documentation to data storage, processing, sharing, and long-term preservation. Particular attention was given to the practical challenges researchers face during project implementation, including the preparation of data management plans, funder requirements, and the selection of suitable repositories.<\/p>\n

During the visit, individual consultations were also held to discuss specific data management-related issues within the ViA research environment. Topics included data storage and documentation options, data publication, metadata preparation, and the use of the DataverseLV repository for sharing research data and ensuring long-term access.<\/p>\n

Visits of this kind help to better understand the needs of higher education and research institutions in the field of data management and to tailor the support provided by data curators to researchers\u2019 everyday practical needs. The meeting at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences provided an opportunity to discuss both institutional-level issues and the needs of specific projects, while identifying the most suitable solutions for data management, preservation, and publication processes.<\/p>\n
