This initiative is implemented by the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vpc.lv\/data-stewards\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Higher Education and Science IT Sharing Services\u00a0Center<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0(VPC) within the framework of the project \u201cSupport for the implementation of open science in practice, as well as creating solutions for research data sharing and participation in the European Open Science Cloud\u201d,\u00a0which is financed by the European Union Recovery Fund.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Data curators are research support specialists whose main goal is to promote high-quality and responsible research data management, implementing the principles of open science and providing support to researchers at all stages of the research data life cycle. Their tasks include:\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" data-list-defn-props=\"{\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">providing consultations on the development and implementation of data management plans\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" data-list-defn-props=\"{\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">assistance\u00a0in data storage, documentation and sharing\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" data-list-defn-props=\"{\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">development of guidelines and regulatory documents\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" data-list-defn-props=\"{\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">organisation of informative and educational events\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" data-list-defn-props=\"{\" data-aria-posinset=\"5\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">support in data deposit and ensuring\u00a0open access\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The Latvian Data Stewards Network currently unites data stewards from four universities &#8211; the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lu.lv\/en\/science\/research-support\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">University of Latvia<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lbtu.lv\/en?_gl=1*7yg0s1*_up*MQ..*_ga*MTc4NjY4Mzk1Ny4xNzY4MzIyNDM0*_ga_KTMKVYLGX5*czE3NjgzMjI0MzMkbzEkZzAkdDE3NjgzMjI0MzMkajYwJGwwJGg5OTU1NjcxODE.\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Latvia University of\u00a0Life Sciences\u00a0and Technologies<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsu.lv\/en\/research\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">R\u012bga\u00a0Stradi\u0146\u0161\u00a0University<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rtu.lv\/en\/research\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Riga Technical University<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0&#8211; as well as the VPC.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The common goal of data stewards is to promote the implementation of research data management and open science principles in Latvian higher education and research institutions. They provide support to researchers, doctoral students, academic and administrative staff at all stages of research &#8211; from data planning and structuring to documentation, storage and sharing. Data stewards act as an interdisciplinary support resource, helping to develop high-quality, sustainable and\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/fair-principles\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">FAIR<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0(Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) research data management practices.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">To ensure high professional quality, data stewards\u00a0regularly improve\u00a0their skills by\u00a0participating\u00a0in various trainings, experience exchange\u00a0events\u00a0and international initiatives. In parallel, they actively develop research data management systems in their institutions, developing guidelines,\u00a0procedures\u00a0and instructions, as well as organising informative and educational events for researchers and support staff.
