It marked the establishment of the Latvian Research Data Stewards Network, bringing together representatives from four Latvian universities \u2013\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsu.lv\/en\/research\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">R\u012bga Stradi\u0146\u0161 University<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0(RSU),\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lu.lv\/en\/science\/research-support\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">University of Latvia<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0(LU),\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lbtu.lv\/en?_gl=1*8erg3o*_up*MQ..*_ga*NjY4MDIxNDI0LjE3NjgzMjE4MDk.*_ga_KTMKVYLGX5*czE3NjgzMjE4MDkkbzEkZzAkdDE3NjgzMjE4MDkkajYwJGwwJGg5NzYwMDk4MjA.\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Latvia University of\u00a0Life Sciences\u00a0and Technologies<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0(LBTU) and\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rtu.lv\/en\/research\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Riga Technical University<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0(RTU) \u2013 as well as the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vpc.lv\/data-stewards\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Higher Education and Science IT Shared\u00a0Services Center<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0(VPC).\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The event was opened by RSU Vice-Rector for Science Agrita\u00a0Kiopa\u00a0and VPC Director J\u0101nis\u00a0Gr\u0113vi\u0146\u0161, emphasising the importance of the data\u00a0stewards\u00a0network in the implementation of open science principles and the development of Latvian research. Michelle van den Berk from the Dutch National Research Data Expertise Centre\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dans.knaw.nl\/en\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">DANS<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0provided an international perspective, highlighting the importance of implementing the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/fair-principles\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">FAIR<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0(Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles in research.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">RSU Associate Professor and Researcher Sergio Uribe shared his experience, emphasising the importance of data management in improving research quality and career growth. In turn, VPC Data Steward Daina\u00a0Kos\u012bte\u00a0presented the support she received from data stewards at various stages of research while studying for a PhD at the Erasmus MC Medical\u00a0Center\u00a0in the Netherlands.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The goal of the Latvian Data Stewards Network is to promote cooperation and knowledge exchange in research data management and open science.
