On September 27, 2024, the opening meeting of the project \"Support for the implementation of open science in practice, as well as creating solutions for research data sharing and participation in the European Open Science Cloud\" was held at the Anatomy Museum of\u00a0R\u012bga\u00a0Stradi\u0146\u0161\u00a0University. It marked the establishment of the Latvian Research Data Stewards Network, bringing together representatives from four Latvian universities \u2013\u00a0<\/span>R\u012bga Stradi\u0146\u0161 University<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(RSU),\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>University of Latvia<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(LU),\u00a0<\/span>Latvia University of\u00a0Life Sciences\u00a0and Technologies<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(LBTU) and\u00a0<\/span>Riga Technical University<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(RTU) \u2013 as well as the\u00a0<\/span>Higher Education and Science IT Shared\u00a0Services Center<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(VPC).\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The event was opened by RSU Vice-Rector for Science Agrita\u00a0Kiopa\u00a0and VPC Director J\u0101nis\u00a0Gr\u0113vi\u0146\u0161, emphasising the importance of the data\u00a0stewards\u00a0network in the implementation of open science principles and the development of Latvian research. Michelle van den Berk from the Dutch National Research Data Expertise Centre\u00a0<\/span>DANS<\/span><\/a>\u00a0provided an international perspective, highlighting the importance of implementing the\u00a0<\/span>FAIR<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles in research.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

RSU Associate Professor and Researcher Sergio Uribe shared his experience, emphasising the importance of data management in improving research quality and career growth. In turn, VPC Data Steward Daina\u00a0Kos\u012bte\u00a0presented the support she received from data stewards at various stages of research while studying for a PhD at the Erasmus MC Medical\u00a0Center\u00a0in the Netherlands.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The goal of the Latvian Data Stewards Network is to promote cooperation and knowledge exchange in research data management and open science. The establishment of the network is\u00a0an important step\u00a0towards more efficient and sustainable research data management in Latvia, providing researchers with support at all stages of the research data lifecycle.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
